Inflow turbulence generation using an equivalent boundary layer model

چکیده

Eddy-resolved simulation of external flow usually requires inflow boundary conditions representing a turbulent layer (TBL) flow, and the quality fluctuation directly impact accuracy cost simulation. The present study proposes new method to generate TBL turbulence, i.e., equivalent (EBL) model. Based on open-channel model, EBL approximates at given Reynolds number by recovering mean momentum balance with driving force. It simulates streamwise homogeneous applying periodic and, thus, overcomes complexity artificiality incurred classic recycling–rescaling methods. current paper discusses difference between channel flows from equation point view designs force corresponding inertial layer. Also, total shear stress models for obtaining are validated both priori posteriori. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) carried out EBLs Reθ=1000,1420, 2000 (where Reθ is based thickness), showing that model well reflects statistical characteristics numbers. application generation turbulence also demonstrated DNS layers inlet 2000. computational results agree generally acknowledged data published in literature, terms developing statistics, profiles energy spectra characteristic cross sections. Judging velocity, adjustment section shorter than one thickness.

Planetary Boundary Layer Turbulence

In previous chapters boundary layers were evident as thin layers across which thermal, dynamic, and material properties of a free interior flow make a transition to their boundary values and/or boundary fluxes. In those cases the thinness of the boundary layer was typically a statement of the smallness of the relevant diffusivity; e.g., the depth h of the laminar Ekman boundary layer scales as ...

Towards an Analytical Model for Film Cooling Prediction using Integral Turbulent Boundary layer

The objective of this work is to develop deep theoretical methods that are based on the solution of the integral boundary layer equations for investigating film cooling in liquid rocket engine. The integral model assumes that heat is transferred from hot free stream gas to the liquid film both by convection and radiation. The mass is transferred to the free srteam gas by the well-known blowing ...

Generation of Turbulent Inflow Data for Spatially-Developing Boundary Layer Simulations

A method for generating three-dimensional, time-dependent turbulent inflow data for simulations of complex spatially developing boundary layers is described. The approach is to extract instantaneous planes of velocity data from an auxiliary simulation of a zero pressure gradient boundary layer. The auxiliary simulation is also spatially developing, but generates its own inflow conditions throug...

a second order closure model for calculating the turbulence fluxes in atmospheric boundary layer

turbulent fluxes in the atmospheric boundary layer are calculated using different models. one of the most popular and operational models in this groundwork is the second order turbulent model of mellor and yamada that has been widely used to simulate the planetary boundary layer (pbl). despite its popularity, it has been shown that this model has several weeknesses that affect its accuracy. the...

Robust Boundary Layer Mesh Generation

where CP is the cavity of P and BP the ball of P . We derive two algorithms to compute Cp. The first algorithm is tuned to be a fast point reprojection to the geometry even in the presence of a boundary layer mesh. The second one is tuned to generate boundary layer meshes for complex geometries. We show how quasistructured elements can be enforced. In addition, enhancements as multi-normals can...
